Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai
Tanzania’s Active Volcano
Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai
Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai is an active volcano in northern Tanzania, near Lake Natron in the Great Rift Valley. Rising about 2,962 metres above sea level, it is famous for producing unusually cool, dark lava that can appear almost black when it flows. Known locally as the “Mountain of God,” it offers a challenging climb through volcanic terrain, with wide views of Lake Natron, the Rift Valley, and the surrounding plains. Its unique geology and remote setting make it one of Tanzania’s most distinctive volcanic landscapes.
