Rwenzori Mountains
The Mountains of the Moon
Rwenzori Mountains
The Rwenzori Mountains lie along the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. Known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” they are famous for their rugged peaks, misty valleys, glaciers, and unusual high-altitude plants. Mount Stanley, the highest point in the range, rises to 5,109 meters above sea level. Trekking through the Rwenzoris takes you through dense rainforest, giant heather, boggy moorland, and dramatic alpine scenery. The challenging terrain and remote setting make these mountains a remarkable destination for experienced hikers and adventurous travelers.
